What Certifications are Available for Laboratory Professionals? 

In order to become certified by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) you must meet the academic requirements, the experience/training requirements, and then successfully complete a certification examination. Certification examinations are administered by the ASCP Board of Certification year-round using computerized adaptive testing. 

To qualify for certification as a histotechnician or histotechnologist, the applicant should be competent in the following procedures.

Qualifications

A qualification recognizes the competence of individuals in specific technical areas. Qualifications are available in laboratory informatics, immunohistochemistry, laboratory safety and cytometry. To receive the credential, candidates must meet the eligibility requirements and successfully complete an examination (QCYM, QIHC, and QLS) or a work sample project (QLI). Candidates who complete the Qualification process will receive a Certificate of Qualification, which is valid for 3 years.
